My Function Keys

What Is My Function Keys?

My Function Keys is a Windows 95/98/NT utility that allows you Map your function keys to any type of text or user defined macros that you wish. It is a great utility to store commonly used phrases, standard email replies, email address, or even create useful macros like setting F1 to 'Ctrl V' so you can paste with one key stroke.

How Do I use My Function Keys?

When My Function Keys is installed and starts for the first time you will be presented with the following window:

The 'None', 'Ctrl', and 'Shift' radio buttons (Modifier Keys) allow you to define text for a Modifier Key plus a Function Key. For example, if the 'Ctrl' radio button is clicked and you click the F1 key - it will allow you to define text for when you hit 'Ctrl+F1'.

The Execute on Startup Check box, will allow My Function Keys to start automatically each time the computer is started.

The 'Put in System Tray' button will minimize My Function Keys and place it in the System Tray.

How Do I Define the Function Keys?

To define a function key first set the Modifier Key to 'None', 'Ctrl', or 'Shift' and click on any of the function keys (F1-F4 in the non-registered version) and you will be shown a configuration window that will allow you to define text for that key (plus the modifier key):

In this configuration window, Enter the text in which you want to paste, and the label for the Function Key.

My Function Keys gives you the ability to define any text you wish including as non-printable characters such as TAB and BackSpace as well as create macros. Click Here for a full list of keys and macro functions.

Once the function key is now defined just hit the OK button and that key is not defined. Any time you want to use the text, just hit the defined function key on your keyboard and the text or macro will be pasted where the cursor is.

NOTE: This program will override any other program that uses the Function Keys

What Options are available?

My Function Keys offers 2 configurable options (Located under the options menu).

Prompt on Exit   With this option checked, MFK would prompt you each time you try to exit the program. With this option un-checked the program will exit with out prompting you.

Change Disable Key   This option will allow you to change the interactive disable key to one of the following: Scroll Lock (default), Print Screen, Esc, Pause, or Num Lock.

How do I disable My Function Keys?

My Function Keys can be disabled interactively by pressing the defined disable key (Scroll lock is default) key. You will notice when you do this the system tray icon will change to disabled Disabled. My Function Keys will remain disabled until the Escape key is pressed again.

You can also disable a specific key by marking the Disable Function Key check box on the configuration screen. This will allow the key to be disabled in the "My Function Keys" program and allow it to be used by the original program.

For Example, the F1 key is used for HELP in many programs, while My Function Keys is running, you can use F1 to paste the text that you desire. If you wish the F1 key to be used for its original purpose (in this case help) click the Disable Function Key box. This will disable this key for the My Function Keys program.

When you are done defining your keys just minimize the program and it will sit in your System tray. Anytime you want to configure the keys again, just Right Click and hit configure - Or double click the My Function Keys icon in the system tray.

Is there a way to see all the keys at once?

My Function Keys offers a Quick View screen - just hit the SHIFT + The disable key you have defined and you will be presented with a quick view of your defined labels. Hit SHIFT + the disable key again and it disappears.

How Do I Make All The Function Keys Work?

The Un-Registered version only allows you to map the first 4 function keys (F1-F4).

By Registering, you will be given a code to free up the rest of the function keys. (F5-F12).
